Getting a small non-profit started with online fundraising

The Foundation for Prader-Willi Research (FPWR) is a small non-profit that funds research into Prader‑Willi syndrome. In 2006 FPWR needed web-based donor management and an affordable online fundraising solution; commercial options were too expensive, so the organization chose Drupal with CiviCRM to manage contacts and donations and to build a customized fundraising platform.

Using CiviCRM, FPWR extended the system to power personalized campaign pages and its global OneSmallStep initiative, adding multi-currency, multi-language and varied payment-processor support while keeping all donor records and reporting inside CiviCRM. The solution, developed by a small in-house team and one developer, helped grow FPWR’s online fundraising from $0 to over $700,000 annually and supported 500+ fundraisers in 53 cities.
