A CiviCRM Case Study
DrugFree Pennsylvania, a statewide nonprofit in Harrisburg focused on preventing drug and alcohol abuse, faced fragmented constituent data spread across Excel, databases, social media, email lists, accounting and survey systems, and paper forms. They needed a single CRM to centralize contacts and manage communications, events, memberships and contributions. After evaluating options, DrugFree Pennsylvania selected CiviCRM as the only solution that met their full wishlist affordably.
CiviCRM was implemented in a multisite WordPress environment with customizations developed by the in-house team, Arete Imagine Inc., and third‑party developer Eileen McNaughton; several code changes have since been contributed back to the CiviCRM core. The deployment centralized constituent records, enabled integrated communications (email, SMS, mailings, automated reminders), streamlined event, membership and contribution management, and improved reporting and data export — delivering a reliable, cost‑effective, single platform for DrugFree Pennsylvania.
