Diverse City Fund, a volunteer-run nonprofit in Washington, DC that supports grassroots community leaders, faced fragmented grant and donor data spread across Insightly, VerticalResponse and multiple spreadsheets. They needed an affordable, purpose-built grants solution to replace manual tracking and bring data together—so they adopted CiviCRM, using its CiviGrant component to get functionality otherwise found only in high‑priced CRMs.
With setup help from Ginkgo Street Labs, CiviCRM imported contacts, donation records and grant history and configured a grant-management back office, centralizing all data in one repository. CiviCRM’s centralized system replaced the spreadsheets, improved data integrity and concurrency, and made grant tracking central to operations—streamlining workflows and positioning Diverse City Fund to move grant applications online and add event management in the future.
