CiviHosting sets up LDAP contact access in days with CiviCRM

The customer, CiviHosting, wanted to make their CiviCRM contact list accessible outside of the CRM to reduce data duplication and for convenience, allowing access from email programs and phones. They initially tried a Google Apps sync extension but found it did not meet their requirements due to limitations on where the data could be written and accessed.

The solution was implemented using the ldapcivi extension from CiviCRM, which required setting up a node.js server on Amazon Web Services since their CiviHosting service did not support such an installation. After configuring the server and the extension, they successfully created an LDAP server that allowed their CiviCRM contacts to be read by external applications like Thunderbird and Mac Address Book, achieving their goal of centralized, accessible contact data.
