Case Study: Breast Cancer Research Foundation grows online fundraising and donor engagement with CiviCRM

A CiviCRM Case Study

Preview of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation Case Study

Building broader donor support through CiviCRM

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation needed to scale and diversify its online fundraising and communications: solicit direct, corporate, recurring and tribute gifts; embed campaigns like "Raise a Day of Research" and the "Evelyn Lauder Founder's Fund" into Facebook; generate highly personalized receipts; build segmented subscriber lists for targeted mailings; manage events and peer‑to‑peer registration; and produce extensive custom exports and reports. The biggest challenge was convincing stakeholders to move from a proprietary donor system to an open‑source solution. After evaluating major CRMs, the Foundation selected CiviCRM (using Contributions, E‑mail, Groups, Events and Reports) for its transparency and customizability.

Using CiviCRM, with implementation support from Rayogram, the Foundation embedded donation campaigns on Facebook, automated personalized receipts, managed recurring and corporate gifts, segmented audiences for targeted mass mailings, ran event and peer‑to‑peer registrations, and produced the custom exports and reports needed for campaign evaluation and offline data import. CiviCRM enabled the Breast Cancer Research Foundation to grow its online fundraising channels, streamline donor communications and reporting, and improve the ability to evaluate campaigns and pull targeted lists—delivering measurable operational improvements in fundraising and data management.
