A CiviCRM Case Study
The Mental Health Association in NYS (MHANYS), a 501(c)(3) with 30 local affiliates serving 54 New York counties, was working from a legacy contact database accumulated over 15 years that wasn’t integrated with new event data. MHANYS needed a central system accessible to staff at various levels to support communications, advocacy campaigns, event registrations and donor management, and chose CiviCRM (integrated with WordPress) for its nonprofit focus, event management and discount module plus WordPress ACL capabilities.
Kilakwa Associates and MHANYS staff implemented CiviCRM to migrate and consolidate 15 years of contacts, group and tag records, and eliminate/merge duplicates while enabling event management, discounting, bulk mailing and user access controls. As a result, CiviCRM now functions as a single, controlled database for the organization—streamlining event registration, improving advocacy and communications workflows, and centralizing donor management.
