Case Study: Wales Centre for Pharmacy Professional Education achieves an integrated CPD platform and automated administration with CiviCRM

An integrated Continuing Professional Development system for Pharmacists

Wales Centre for Pharmacy Professional Education (WCPPE), an operational unit of the Welsh School of Pharmacy at Cardiff University, needed an integrated Continuing Professional Development (CPD) system to validate and manage its contacts database, run training events across Wales, and deliver course materials electronically and in hard copy. The organisation chose CiviCRM to help unify separate applications but faced the challenge of learning CiviCRM’s full capabilities and limitations and adapting it to meet specific workflow and integration needs.

Using CiviCRM integrated with Drupal, Moodle and Mahara, the team implemented a single-point-of-access CPD platform that leverages CiviCRM’s membership and events functionality to automate administration, manage contacts and run events. CiviCRM enabled WCPPE to validate and manage pharmacist records, deliver e-learning and distance learning packs, and streamline event administration—resulting in a more efficient service for pharmacists across Wales and significantly reduced manual administration.
