A Cityworks Case Study
York County Government in South Carolina needed to replace a failing homegrown road-maintenance system, capture institutional knowledge, and improve GIS-driven asset management and reporting across many divisions. To meet those challenges, the County adopted Cityworks—including Cityworks Server AMS and Cityworks Storeroom—to standardize work orders, inspections, service requests, and equipment tracking.
Cityworks was implemented across 10 departments (engineering/transportation, road maintenance, solid waste, facilities, emergency management, and more), moving data out of Excel and Word into structured records with more than 70 custom fields plus ELM and Storeroom inventory tracking. As a result, York County improved SQL Reporting Services-based data retrieval, achieved more accurate grant reporting and event cost accounting, better tracked assets like dosimeters, and eliminated tasks that previously required weeks of programmer time—delivering more efficient processes and stronger, data-driven decision making with Cityworks.
