Case Study: Green Bay Water Utility achieves 4× more leak detection and streamlined maintenance with Cityworks

A Cityworks Case Study

Preview of the Green Bay Water Utility Case Study

Using Satellite Data to Keep Water at Bay

Green Bay Water Utility (GBWU) operates a 130‑year‑old, 440‑mile distribution system in Wisconsin and faces persistent leaks that threaten infrastructure and revenue—especially in freeze‑thaw conditions. GBWU has used Cityworks for more than 12 years for asset management, deploying multi‑function Cityworks dashboards in office and mobile apps across distribution, engineering, customer service, pumping, and filtration teams to better track and manage maintenance.

GBWU combined satellite leak detection data from Utilis with Cityworks by importing polygons of interest into Cityworks, creating work orders, and having field crews log leak type and lost‑water volume directly in the system. Using Cityworks to manage the program, GBWU surveyed 100% of the network (vs ~20% previously), identified 207 hot spots covering ~1,000 feet (about 11% of mains), inspected 75 points and found 28 leaks, detected four times as many leaks overall, and reduced physical inspection by 5%—improving efficiency and customer communication through Cityworks.
