Town of Colonie - Customer Case Study

The Town of Colonie, New York, had long relied on paper, index cards, and limited Excel/Access tracking in its Building Department, creating inefficient, single-user workflows and redundant processes. Already using Cityworks MMS in its Highway, Sanitary, and Water Departments since 2006, the Town implemented Cityworks PLL in the Building Department (went live December 2009) to replace manual systems and improve efficiency.

Cityworks PLL enabled the Town of Colonie to reduce paper use, look up permit status quickly, eliminate redundancy across departments, and produce regular reports (including weekly financial reports for the Comptroller’s Office). Cityworks’ solution also increased interdepartmental collaboration, and set the stage for measurable extensions—mobile inspections, migration of DPW to Cityworks Server, and linking permits to service requests and work orders—resulting in clear gains in efficiency and internal coordination.
