Case Study: City of Sugar Land achieves citywide, data-driven asset management with Cityworks

A Cityworks Case Study

Preview of the City of Sugar Land Case Study

Sugar Land, Texas Combining Services, Assets, Cityworks, and Financial Planning

The City of Sugar Land, Texas, needed to move beyond fragmented asset activities to a unified, ISO-aligned citywide asset management program that would support data-driven budgeting, transparent decision making, and improved customer outcomes. To achieve this, the city selected Cityworks as its citywide CMMS and expanded the platform from the surface water treatment plant into Administration, Streets & Drainage, Traffic, Right of Way Services, Water Utilities, Fleet, Facilities, and Solid Waste to capture work order costs, workloads, and completion times for better planning.

Using Cityworks, Sugar Land established an asset management policy (approved January 2016), completed gap assessments, and executed a phased implementation roadmap that produced a corporate risk framework, an investment-planning framework, and a risk-based water-main prioritization project. The City of Sugar Land now relies on Cityworks-supported, data-driven and repeatable processes to inform budgeting, capital project prioritization, and staffing requests, and is continuing to expand Cityworks into additional departments.
