Sibling Departments Engineering and Public Works Work Together at the City of Biloxi, Mississippi

The City of Biloxi faced major post‑Katrina recovery and, in 2016, spun off a new Engineering Department responsible for a $355 million infrastructure repair program that required tight coordination with Public Works, contractors, and the public. To manage complaints, assets, inspections, procurement and field work, the City of Biloxi deployed Cityworks — initially Desktop and later migrating to Office/Field for AMS, Cityworks Storeroom, and Field on laptops and iPads.

Cityworks enabled the City of Biloxi to create and track service requests, route issues to inspectors, contractors or Public Works, display utilities and project boundaries on maps, maintain storeroom inventory, and run reports on complaint counts, locations and time‑to‑resolution. The Cityworks implementation grew from about four users to more than 60, improved interdepartmental communication and contractor handoffs, and delivered measurable operational insights to more effectively manage the $355M project.
