Sandy City, UT Fire Department Safeguards Community with Cityworks

Sandy City Fire Department in Sandy City, Utah, confronted delayed awareness of out-of-service fire hydrants and inefficient asset and inventory workflows across departments. To address these challenges the city implemented Cityworks, a GIS-centric public asset management solution (including Cityworks Storeroom) to manage hydrant inspections, create event layers, and centralize storeroom inventory.

Cityworks deployed flow-test inspections and map-based event layers that flag out-of-service hydrants with color-changing symbols (reverting to green for 30 days after repair), while Cityworks Storeroom tracks materials to prevent unnecessary purchases. The solution expanded use across the city from 6 to more than 36 users, enabled real-time field updates via laptops, and saved time and money by giving the Sandy City Fire Department and Public Utilities instant, accurate visibility into critical assets.
