Minnetonka, Minnesota Manages Forestry with Cityworks

The City of Minnetonka Natural Resources Division faced the challenge of managing extensive urban forestry work—tracking trees and forestry assets, coordinating service requests and work orders, and running a Shade Tree Disease Control Program while preparing for threats like the Emerald Ash Borer. To address this, the City of Minnetonka implemented Cityworks by Azteca Systems, Inc., a GIS-centric asset and work management solution.

Cityworks gave Minnetonka a unified, map-based framework to track virtually all forestry work—including the 1,300–2,900 annual tree removals—task and update work orders more efficiently, and support disease-control efforts. The system improved staff productivity and helped save time, money, and materials; it has also enabled expanded use (budget tracking and adoption by other Public Works divisions) as the City of Minnetonka scales the solution.
