A Cityworks Case Study
The City of Longview, Texas, was operating on an aging, homegrown work‑order system spread across five disparate databases (including FoxPro and Access) with roughly 450,000 historical work orders and no GIS integration. Seeking a GIS‑centric enterprise solution, the City selected Cityworks—purchasing a Cityworks Enterprise License Agreement and rolling the system out first in Public Works (Water, Sewer, Streets, Traffic, Drainage) with plans to expand to Parks, Facilities, Warehouse and more.
Cityworks, implemented with NTB Associates’ configuration, training and onsite support, imported 99% of Longview’s 450,000 work orders and delivered a smooth go‑live. The City now uses Cityworks desktop with ArcGIS to locate assets, view work history and costs, and generate reliable reports; supervisors arrive at meetings with data rather than memory. Measurable impacts include full historical data access, faster work delegation, improved communication, better labor/cost tracking (which revealed undercharged Parks tournament fees), and enterprise‑wide management that is already expanding through Cityworks.
