A Cityworks Case Study
The City of Grand Rapids sought to overhaul inefficient, siloed inventory and materials management across multiple divisions to reduce costs, improve accuracy, and increase accountability. After evaluating options, the City selected Cityworks Storeroom to replace spreadsheets and manual processes and to standardize requisitions, receivables, issuances, transfers and audits across storerooms.
Cityworks implemented Storeroom with barcoding and Bluetooth scanning, ROP (Reorder Point), EOQ (Economic Order Quantity), ABC classification, supplier consolidation, and integrated reporting via the Cityworks inbox and SharePoint dashboards. These changes improved inventory accuracy and accountability, reduced redundant suppliers and slow-moving stock, enabled cycle counts and better purchasing, and delivered $1.5 million in ROI in the first year; Grand Rapids is now centralizing distribution and planning to expand Cityworks for core asset management.
