Case Study: City of Kitchener achieves proactive, data-driven asset maintenance and prioritization with Cityworks

A Cityworks Case Study

Preview of the City of Kitchener Case Study

Kitchener Ontario and Maintenance Scores

The City of Kitchener faced the common municipal challenge of managing large volumes of critical infrastructure and capital assets across sewers, water, gas and facilities. To improve planning and prioritization, the City deployed the Cityworks Suite and introduced maintenance scoring to classify the importance of maintenance tasks and asset upgrades.

Using Cityworks, the City applied a maintenance score to every work order and ran a script to backfill historic work orders dating to 2010, enabling GIS visualizations (heat bubbles) that reveal recurring problem locations and cumulative asset history. Cityworks’ scoring has helped the City of Kitchener prioritize preventative maintenance, reduce emergency failures and related costs, justify capital projects, and prepare to extend mobile condition scoring for crews in the field.
