Case Study: City of Westland achieves efficient SAW grant management and streamlined stormwater asset inspections with Cityworks

A Cityworks Case Study

Preview of the City of Westland Case Study

Implementing Cityworks for SAW Program

The City of Westland used the State of Michigan SAW (Stormwater, Asset Management, and Wastewater) grant to build an asset management program for critical stormwater and wastewater infrastructure, and needed a scalable, organization-wide system to manage projects, inspections, budgeting and grant reimbursements. To meet this challenge the City deployed Cityworks Online alongside Esri ArcGIS Online, leveraging the vendor Cityworks to support grant tracking, CCTV/PACP inspections, and asset GIS integration.

Cityworks delivered an externalized CWOL + AGOL solution with custom inspection templates, a vendor login for CCTV crews, an inbox workflow for real-time inspection management, and a Contracts module for bid and contract tracking. The deployment grew from 10 users at go-live in January 2015 to more than 45 users within eight months, enabled one-click creation of work orders from inspection findings, streamlined reporting for reimbursable activities, and allowed PACP-standard import of inspection data — accelerating reimbursement submission and simplifying overall grant and asset-management reporting for the City.
