Effortless Pipe Inspections Drive Success for OWASA

Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) in North Carolina needed a better way to identify and manage aging underground water and wastewater assets amid rising water main breaks and many mains older than 50 years. OWASA uses the Cityworks web GIS‑centric platform—integrated with ArcGIS and the Cityworks–WinCan CCTV interface—to track physical assets plus associated work, materials, costs and inspection data.

Using the Cityworks–WinCan–ArcGIS integration, field crews access TV inspection work orders in‑truck and WinCan inspection data and media automatically populate the appropriate Cityworks inspection fields, with hyperlinks to CCTV videos attached to GIS pipe segments. The Cityworks solution eliminated manual data transfers, streamlined inspections and crew engagement, and provided OWASA engineers with map‑based access to condition data and video for faster, more informed planning toward long‑term sustainability.
