A Cityworks Case Study
DuPage County’s Stormwater Management Department (SWM) faced growing challenges managing flood-control infrastructure across a rapidly urbanized county—17 flood control and 17 drainage facilities, nearly 200 detention basins, and more than 300 natural sites—while relying on paper inspections and ad hoc work orders that let issues slip through the cracks. Seeking a GIS-integrated asset management system to connect divisions, track projects and costs, and improve emergency preparedness, DuPage County selected Cityworks and its Cityworks AMS to build on the county’s existing ArcGIS foundation.
Cityworks professional services implemented Cityworks AMS, mapped a comprehensive asset inventory into an ArcGIS geodatabase, configured work orders/inspections, and trained staff on desktop and mobile workflows. The Cityworks mobile app and dashboards delivered immediate, measurable benefits: real-time field updates (eliminating paperwork), tracking of staff hours/materials, management of hundreds of assets, improved interdepartmental communication, and stronger emergency response—put to the test one month after go-live when SWM successfully managed a storm that dropped more than five inches of rain in a week.
