A Cityworks Case Study
The District of Sechelt, a small community in British Columbia of about 10,000 residents, needed an integrated solution to support service levels, asset management, structured workflows and evidence‑based decision making while integrating with its electronic document management. In 2012 the District of Sechelt purchased Cityworks (from Esri Canada) and charged a small team to align their GIS and processes to a scalable, phased implementation.
Cityworks was deployed incrementally—restructuring the GIS, streamlining service requests, rolling out mobile inspections, and integrating work orders with payroll via worXlog and OnBase document access—so staff adopted the system through quick wins and proof‑of‑concepts. The Cityworks implementation delivered measurable benefits: web‑based time entry and integrated work orders, clearer labor costing (e.g., 794.5 hours or 52.2 man‑hours per square metre for sports field maintenance in 2016), improved planning and decision making, and a growing organization‑wide asset register.
