Diminshing Fire Threat Through Prevention in Vista, CA

The City of Vista, California, with a Fire Department responsible for fire prevention across the city and Vista Fire Protection District, needed a better way to manage its annual Weed Abatement Program—over 1,300 property inspections—after relying on Excel spreadsheets that caused routing inefficiencies, unclear property boundaries, and time-consuming office research. Fire Inspector Mike McFadden turned to Cityworks, using Cityworks PLL and the Cityworks mobile app to provide a GIS-centric, location-based inspection workflow and field access to current APN and owner data.

Upgrading to Cityworks 15.1.2 and the Cityworks mobile native app (v4) solved connectivity and mapping issues, letting inspectors add roughly 100 properties in the field with the "Locate Me" tool, separate new inspections via PLL fields, and reduce duplicate travel and manual processing. The City of Vista reports that Cityworks has freed up weeks of staff time for hazardous building inspections, public education, plan review and other mandated work, with further gains expected as Cityworks mobile enhancements (v5) are rolled out.
