A Cityworks Case Study
Coon Rapids, MN, a city of about 61,000 residents, faced a surge of 450–600 foreclosed and vacant properties per year after the 2008 housing crisis, leading to burst pipes, overgrown lawns and scattered, hard-to-track documents. Cityworks (by Esri Platinum Tier Partner Azteca Systems, Inc.), already used in the city’s Public Works Department, was identified as the platform to help organize and simplify the complex tracking and enforcement work.
Cityworks, together with ArcGIS, was used to attach Cityworks code-enforcement work orders to address points and deploy templates for vacant, rental, long-grass and other lot tasks; individual tasks track water shutoffs/turn-ons, owner communications, abatements, inspections and property status. The solution gave Coon Rapids a clear, map-based view of hundreds of problem properties, streamlined rental licensing and inspection workflows, preserved vacant homes as assets rather than liabilities, and produced a reliable work-order history the city can use to prioritize actions and report to the city council.
