Cityworks Work Order API Facilitates SCADA Integration at Waterford Township

Waterford Township’s Department of Public Works faced the challenge of standardizing workflows and integrating its SCADA system with an asset/work‑order platform to turn years of operator knowledge into electronic standard operating procedures (eSOPs) and automatically generate work orders. To solve this, Waterford Township selected Cityworks and its Cityworks Work Order API to enable condition‑based triggers from SCADA to produce procedures and work orders within their workflow.

Cityworks implemented a web‑services integration—linking GE Proficy iFIX/Workflow to Cityworks via the Work Order API—so SCADA could send key data to automatically create routine and emergency work orders and eSOPs. The integration was completed in one week (two weeks for the initial workflows), increased data sharing and functionality, reduced development and maintenance effort, and empowered DPW staff to create new automated workflows internally, delivering measurable improvements in operational efficiency for Waterford Township.
