A Cityworks Case Study
Waterford Township, Michigan, partnered with Cityworks to modernize its GIS-centric asset management after moving beyond a single billing system in the 1990s. The Township needed a flexible core application to manage water and sewer, facilities, cemeteries, utility locating and many other department workflows, consolidate multiple CMMS tools, and gain better operational visibility across integrations like SCADA, document management and utilities staking.
Cityworks was customized and integrated across departments (including integration with Dig‑Smart) to automate work orders, streamline locating requests, consolidate CMMS functions, and capture true cost data. The results include documented savings and impacts that exceed $130,000 annually: $12,416/year from faster utility locate processing, about $65,000/year from reducing utility locating staff, $2,200/year in avoided CMMS maintenance fees, and Cityworks-driven analysis that revealed and enabled recovery of an approximate $52,000/year cemetery deficit—plus broad efficiency gains from consolidated systems and better information.
