A Cityworks Case Study
The Town of Colonie, New York, needed a comprehensive system to administer licensing, permitting, and asset management across its Water, Building, and Fire Services departments and to support capital planning tied to its GIS. Cityworks provided that solution, deploying its Server PLL and AMS products to integrate permitting, complaints, and infrastructure records with the town’s GIS database.
Cityworks implemented a GIS-centric workflow so all permits (building, water, sewer, highway, grading, operating) and complaints are tracked end-to-end, fees are calculated within the system, and payments and work are linked to fixed assets or parcels. The deployment eliminated fee-calculation errors, centralized permit issuance and payment tracking, improved operational visibility for staff and decision-makers, and enabled automated reporting for the comptroller—strengthening internal controls and capital-planning processes.
