A Cityworks Case Study
The City of Novi faced the growing challenge of maintaining hundreds of miles of roads, water mains, and sanitary sewer for a rapidly expanding community (16.4% growth, serving ~55,000 residents and 3,000 businesses). To improve asset management and contain costs without adding staff, the City of Novi selected Cityworks and went live with Cityworks Server AMS in May 2012 to manage water, sewer, traffic signs and road infrastructure, later adding storm sewer and non-motorized assets.
Cityworks, integrated with Esri ArcGIS (cloud and on‑premise AGS), provided a GIS‑centric asset management solution that increased accountability, enabled preventative maintenance, and moved operations nearly paperless. Within two months staff completed more than 600 service requests and work orders; Cityworks is now used across six operational divisions in three departments and two locations, supports over 110 citizen request types, and has helped Novi save tax dollars and improve service delivery—outcomes the city attributes to Cityworks.
