Case Study: City of Woodland achieves empowered GIS editing and automated maintenance workflows with Cityworks

A Cityworks Case Study

Preview of the City of Woodland Case Study

City of Woodland Makes Cityworks Their Own

The City of Woodland, California, has relied on Cityworks since 2002 to manage GIS-based asset and work-order workflows while coping with limited IT/GIS resources and a platform transition to Office for ArcGIS. They needed to empower end users to own and edit data, simplify searching and mapping tasks, and maintain efficient preventive maintenance and water shutoff processes across departments.

Leveraging the Cityworks platform and web service APIs, Woodland’s IT/GIS team built custom tools and integrations — including an Edit Pencil map plug-in, measure and Lat/Long tools, an enhanced search, custom email/print utilities, an automated water shutoff workflow (Crystal Reports, Esri geoprocessing, PHP), and CoWPIE (City of Woodland Preventative Infrastructure Evaluator) for task-driven preventive maintenance. The Cityworks-enabled solutions let users edit attributes daily or hourly, turned water shutoff days from a long, stressful process into routine operations, improved task tracking and cost capture, and earned Woodland the Cityworks Exemplary User recognition for tangible time savings and operational improvements.
