City of Westland - Customer Case Study

The City of Westland, Michigan launched a Neighborhood Makeover program in May 2017 to deliver customized, neighborhood-level services rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. Faced with the need to assess roughly 50 neighborhoods across about 50 service-level questions (from tree trimming to water line inspections) and to tie observations to exact locations, Westland turned to Cityworks (integrated with Esri ArcGIS) so crews could digitally log work and link data to physical places from the field.

Using Cityworks, Westland geocodes work orders, automatically zooms maps to issue locations, and tracks inspections, labor, costs, materials, and work activities for each neighborhood. Cityworks enabled staff to analyze program data, communicate updates to residents, and build a uniform, GIS‑centric dataset that provides a measurable baseline for evaluating neighborhood health and prioritizing future investments across the city.
