City of Newport News Realizes Sustained Results with Cityworks Enterprise Solution

The City of Newport News, Virginia, struggled with centralized, inefficient asset and operations management—relying on roughly 250 mainframe programs and a single Division Administrator to generate reports—and needed a GIS-centric enterprise system. The City selected Cityworks' GIS-centric enterprise solution to modernize reporting, inventory control, and service request management across departments.

Cityworks was implemented beginning in 2004 in Public Works and expanded citywide (Streets, Solid Waste, Building Services, Engineering, Code Compliance, and multiple administrative offices). The Cityworks solution gave users desktop access to Crystal Reports and self-service reporting, improved storeroom annual inventory and end-of-fiscal-year processing, and eliminated reliance on numerous mainframe programs—delivering sustained, organization-wide time savings and operational improvements.
