A Cityworks Case Study
The City of Marco Island, a barrier‑island community in southwest Florida, needed a GIS‑centric computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to address infrastructure vulnerability from severe weather and a state‑mandated septic‑to‑sewer conversion. To catalog and manage water, sewer, stormwater and other city assets, the City of Marco Island selected Cityworks (a GIS‑based CMMS).
Cityworks was deployed in a two‑phase implementation (remote install followed by full deployment and staff training, carried out by Azteca Systems), bringing the database online in about three months. Cityworks centralized work orders, organized preventative and reactive maintenance, optimized valve exercise and auto‑flusher programs, reduced duplicate visits and work orders, improved vehicle maintenance tracking, and made asset data available in minutes instead of weeks — producing man‑hour savings and thousands of dollars annually in reduced repairs, premature oil changes and overbilling. Marco Island is expanding usage with Cityworks Storeroom and plans to roll out Cityworks Server citywide.
