A Cityworks Case Study
The City of Burien, Washington, a community of about 34,000, needed a better way to coordinate Street and Stormwater field operations, inventory street assets into GIS, and give crews real-time access while working off the City network. To address these challenges the city deployed Cityworks—using Cityworks Server AMS and Cityworks Desktop 4.5 with DataPump alongside GIS web services—to replace a fragmented, slow process where updates and asset visibility often took days.
Using Cityworks Server AMS integrated with GIS web services and mobile laptops connected via a NetMotion VPN over 4G, crews now create and complete work orders, track costs, and push GIS updates from the field. Cityworks reduced turnaround time from roughly 72 hours or more to an average of 24 hours, enabled same-day asset updates, reduced duplicate responses by consolidating service requests, and provided crews a single system for mapping, finding, and reporting assets.
