A Cityworks Case Study
The City of Burien, Washington, needed to comply with state-mandated NPDES stormwater permit requirements and sought an automated, GIS-centric solution. The city selected Cityworks, deploying Cityworks in 2008 (and upgrading to the browser-based Cityworks Server AMS in 2011) within Public Works to manage stormwater assets, inspections, and maintenance workflows.
Cityworks integrated directly with Burien’s GIS asset inventory to deliver inspections, work order templates, and real-time field-to-office workflows that centralized activities and reduced duplicated effort. As a result, Burien achieved more accurate, timely, and standardized stormwater data and reports, improved crew utilization, faster citizen follow-up, and the ability to meet NPDES permit requirements within mandated timeframes while mitigating liability through verifiable work tracking.
