A Cityworks Case Study
The City of Ann Arbor faced a labor-intensive sidewalk inspection program—inspecting more than 27,000 sidewalk segments every five years—while relying on paper forms that cost the City $100,000 per year and produced delays and follow-up due to illegible notes. The City of Ann Arbor has been a Cityworks user since 2000 and expanded to a full enterprise implementation to address these inefficiencies.
Ann Arbor implemented Cityworks in 2007 for sidewalk inspections, equipping field inspectors with tablet PCs so all inspection phases were tracked in Cityworks and results were available immediately. Using Cityworks reduced inspection time, eliminated unreadable handwritten notes, and produced documented savings of $500 per week per team—about $52,000 annually—demonstrating measurable operational and cost benefits.
