A Cityworks Case Study
City of Charlotte (Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities Department) needed to improve efficiency and control across its large field operations organization charged with managing billions of dollars in water and wastewater assets. To streamline work for more than 350 field staff responsible for 8,000+ miles of water and sewer mains, 130,000 manholes, thousands of valves, and 70+ lift stations, the city expanded its existing Cityworks deployment and adopted the web-based Cityworks Server AMS.
Cityworks rolled out the field solution on 160 Panasonic Toughbooks and Dell XFRs, deployed Cityworks Storeroom, built custom asset hierarchies, and implemented bi-directional integrations with Ventyx Advantage billing and the North Carolina One Call system via Microsoft BizTalk. Within the first week Cityworks enabled the City of Charlotte to handle over 4,700 service requests, generate ~200 work orders and close about 2,200 requests, while tracking thousands of parts—delivering measurable gains in responsiveness and asset-management efficiency.
