Case Study: City of Loveland achieves comprehensive asset tracking and streamlined maintenance for its solar facility with Cityworks

A Cityworks Case Study

Building an Asset Data Model from the Ground Up

The City of Loveland (Loveland Water and Power) faced a unique asset-tracking challenge when it brought a new 19-acre, 3.5‑megawatt municipal solar facility online and found no existing GIS data model to track panel damage and maintenance needs. Already using Cityworks in multiple departments, the city turned to the Cityworks asset management platform to extend its maintenance workflows to the new solar site.

Loveland built a custom asset data model over three months—using ArcGIS Pro to geoprocess CAD into Esri features, conflating with aerial imagery, and deploying the model to its enterprise SQL Server—then integrated that dataset with Cityworks. With Cityworks, the city can now account for every asset (from combiner boxes and tracker motors to inverters), run inspections with photos and field notes, generate work orders, schedule parts replacement, and track historical job costs, improving field and back‑office efficiencies.
