Citywide Data System Improves Management, Enables Quantifiable Analysis of Chicago After-School Youth Programs

The City of Chicago Department of Family & Support Services partnered with Cityspan to better manage and analyze its Chicago Out-of-School Time (OST) youth programs. The city needed a way to coordinate data across five agencies that each had different reporting and intake processes, while gaining a clearer citywide view of after-school services for more than 200,000 youth annually.

Cityspan implemented a network of interconnected data tracking systems, with separate “silo” systems for each agency linked into one citywide overview. The solution standardized reporting, reduced data transfer and administrative costs, centralized youth application processing, and improved service targeting across neighborhoods. As a result, Cityspan helped Chicago track services at more than 1,500 locations annually, streamline operations, and support funding efforts with measurable program outcomes.
