Chicago Unifies and Manages Data for More than 20 Programs, 600 Schools, 100,000 Students

Chicago Public Schools needed a better way to coordinate out-of-school-time programming for more than 100,000 students across 600 schools, especially with multiple nonprofit partners and complex privacy requirements. With existing spreadsheets and a student information system that couldn’t handle varied program designs, CPS turned to Cityspan for a data system that could support secure data sharing, tracking, and accountability.

Cityspan created a cloud-based online platform that integrated with CPS systems and used role-based permissions to share student records while protecting privacy. The solution streamlined data collection across more than 15 OST program designs and 10 funding sources, improved reporting and compliance, reduced the burden on teachers and providers, and gave CPS better visibility to manage resources more effectively across programs and communities.
