MixRank is a B2B customer-discovery platform that ingests and analyzes vast web and mobile data to help sales teams find and prioritize prospects. The company needed near-real-time access to tens of terabytes of time-series data; Hadoop batch processing was too slow and commercial in-memory analytics were prohibitively expensive, and vanilla PostgreSQL could not distribute tables across a cluster to meet future scale needs.

MixRank piloted and adopted CitusDB to scale out PostgreSQL across commodity servers (a 20-node cluster with SSDs) with minimal application changes. The switch delivered immediate benefits: customers saw fresher data (minutes or seconds), MixRank now handles 160+ TB of data, I/O throughput and parallelism improved dramatically, and the company reduced hardware and platform costs—estimating a 50–100× smaller hardware budget—while simplifying operations.
