Wiha Premium Tools, a Black Forest–based maker of precision hand tools, needed a fast, cost‑effective way to provide high‑performance CAD workstations to a new development site in Waldkirch without building a duplicate environment or overloading its network. Previously, CAD designers used local high‑end PCs for 2D/3D work, but extending that model would have been expensive and hard to manage across sites.

Working with partner Makro Factory, Wiha upgraded its Citrix XenDesktop environment with HDX 3D Pro and XenServer multi‑GPU pass‑through using NVIDIA Quadro 2000 cards, with developers connecting via Citrix Receiver and secure Access Gateway. The result: near‑native CAD performance over the WAN, support for telework and BYOD, centralized image management for easier expansion and acquisitions, and a roadmap to broader virtualization with HA and automated backups.
