A Citrix Case Study
The University of South Florida, a large public research university serving over 47,000 students across three campuses, needed to move beyond traditional computer labs to support a mobile, BYOD student body and reduce the cost and overhead of maintaining many on-campus workstations. The challenge was to provide secure, 24/7 access to high-end applications for students, faculty and compliance teams from any device, on or off campus.
USF deployed Citrix technologies (XenApp, XenServer, NetScaler, Receiver and XenDesktop) to deliver applications on demand to any device and to centrally manage lab desktops. The move cut open-use labs from eight to one and reduced machines from 393 to 167, saving nearly $300,000 per year, enabled ADA-compliant and high-end application access anywhere, and reduced trouble tickets and repair work by about 80 percent while improving the student experience.
