USEK drives high performance for BYOD students

The Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) in Lebanon, a tech-forward university with over 8,000 students, faced a challenge in its Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts: students needed resource‑intensive graphics applications (AutoCAD, 3ds Max, Maya) that required high‑performance workstations, while the university wanted to adopt a BYOD policy to increase mobility, reduce costs, and lower emissions without forcing students to buy expensive PCs.

USEK worked with Citrix, WorldNet and hardware partners to deliver Citrix XenDesktop on powerful HP/NVIDIA servers (about 16GB RAM and 1–2GB GPU per user), enabling remote GPU access from any device. The rollout—proven in a summer pilot—gave students and faculty anywhere access to 170+ applications, cut energy and cooling costs by replacing dozens of workstations with centralized servers, simplified IT management with a single desktop image, improved security, and is being expanded to other faculties.
