University Medical Center Groningen Get into the mobility evolution

University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) is one of the Netherlands’ largest hospitals with over 11,000 staff and a growing need to share patient data across specialists, general practitioners and patients. Rising mobility — staff working from offices, home and on the road on personal devices — plus strict healthcare legislation forced UMCG to move data out of a “secure vault” while maintaining confidentiality and compliance (NEN7510).

UMCG extended its existing Citrix estate with XenMobile, Worx, ShareFile and redundant NetScaler appliances hosted in its own data center to manage BYOD and corporate devices. XenMobile’s sandboxing, device checks, remote wipe and corporate app store let UMCG secure apps and data, support some 5,000 mobile devices, speed rollouts, reduce investment through integration with existing Citrix infrastructure, and retain control and compliance — with plans to adopt ShareFile as a controlled file‑sharing solution.
