Case Study: Calor Gas Ltd achieves consistent high-performance virtual desktops and centralized app delivery with Citrix XenDesktop

A Citrix Case Study

Preview of the Calor Gas Ltd Case Study

UK energy supplier provides flexible and reliable performance to power users with XenDesktop

Calor Gas Ltd., a long‑established UK supplier of liquefied petroleum gas, was running a mixed IT environment: a hosted XenApp desktop for about 900 users alongside ad‑hoc VDI for power users, VPN access for outsourced developers and a locally run, data‑heavy delivery‑scheduling application at depots. The ad‑hoc VDI caused capacity and performance problems that affected all users, VPNs were inflexible to scale, and the depot app regularly failed, requiring IT to travel onsite to repair data and hardware.

Calor deployed a dedicated XenDesktop environment on Atlantis HyperScale CX‑12 appliances (one appliance for XenApp, one for XenDesktop), delivering role‑based virtual desktops and apps via Citrix Receiver with dedicated compute and all‑flash storage. The rollout gave power users and external developers consistent, secure high performance without impacting others, enabled centralised management of the depot scheduling app (reducing downtime and site visits), and simplified IT operations while cutting costs.
