Toward a secure, multi-device environment for a Japanese regional banking major

Bank of the Ryukyus, a regional bank in Okinawa with about 2,000 employees, faced an urgent IT challenge when support ended for the Windows XP fat terminals it relied on. Management needed a secure, high-performance environment that removed data from endpoints, logically separated internet access from the intranet, and supported new multi-device work styles and remote access.

The bank implemented desktop virtualization using Citrix Virtual Apps (with Citrix consulting, education and TRM services), upgraded server OS, applications and hardware, and deployed thin clients and internet separation. The result was markedly improved performance and enhanced security without compromising usability, enabling staff to access the same work environment from multiple devices and remote locations (including customer sites), and laying the groundwork for telecommuting, DR expansion and additional cloud/authentication enhancements.
