A Citrix Case Study
Luleå University of Technology, a leading Swedish tech university with four campuses and 15,000 students from 60 nationalities, needed to modernize its IT to stay competitive as education becomes increasingly digital and international. Resource‑intensive programs such as game design exposed the limits of traditional workstation labs and fixed capex refresh cycles, making it harder to meet rising student expectations and deliver education beyond campus boundaries.
Working with Platinum Citrix partner Atea, the university migrated backend systems to Microsoft Azure and deployed Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops to convert labs to thin‑client access. The solution gives students and staff secure, 3D‑capable desktops from any device or location (supporting apps and information for 1,000 students and 1,600 staff in the rollout), enables international course delivery, shifts costs from capex to flexible operational spend, and keeps lab environments continuously up to date.
