Case Study: The Weather Channel achieves high-definition, on-demand virtual desktops and improved IT efficiency with Citrix XenDesktop

A Citrix Case Study

Preview of the The Weather Channel Case Study

The Weather Channel ensures a high definition user experience in any conditions

The Weather Channel (TWCC), which delivers TV, web and mobile weather content to millions, faced the challenge of providing standardized, high-performance desktops and applications to a widely distributed, 24x7 workforce—including producers and reporters who must edit high‑definition video from any location—while a small IT team supported many users and hardware shortages slowed production.

TWCC deployed Citrix XenDesktop with Microsoft Hyper‑V (validated in a CentriNet proof of concept) to deliver pooled and dedicated virtual desktops, using Citrix HDX and Microsoft RemoteFX to stream high‑definition video from server GPUs to thin clients. The solution enabled uninterrupted 24x7 operations and remote work, centralized management and faster app delivery, reduced hardware refresh and ownership costs, and improved security and IT efficiency across the organization.
