A Citrix Case Study
The North Carolina State Board of Elections administers voter registration and election systems used by up to 30,000 state, county and local workers across 100 county servers. The agency needed reliable, real‑time access to voter data and support for printers, USB scanners and network scanners even if a county server failed, but its thick‑client applications and rural network constraints made traditional web rewrites or heavy network solutions impractical.
By virtualizing applications with Citrix XenApp, the board provided secure access to centralized, real‑time statewide data without rewriting apps, keeping a small network footprint for rural areas and supporting BYOD and peripheral devices. The result: near‑instant failover to statewide data during county outages, scalable remote access across all counties, lower costs and faster deployment, and effective business continuity for elections.
