A Citrix Case Study

The National Archives brings the past into the future with Citrix

The National Archives, custodian of more than 12 million government and public records dating back 1,000 years, faced rising demand for online access and relied on staff and many volunteers to digitize and transcribe documents. The organization needed a secure, easy-to-use platform with a consistent experience onsite and offsite, a shallow learning curve for volunteers, and support for remote working and business continuity.

The Archives deployed Citrix Workspace in the cloud with partner Cetus Solutions, giving staff and volunteers a familiar single sign‑on virtual desktop accessible from any device while keeping data containerized to prevent downloads and meet DLP requirements. The solution improved flexibility and resilience, drew very positive user feedback, reduced hardware and licensing costs (using Chromeboxes for onsite volunteers), and helped shrink the organization’s physical and energy footprint.
