A Citrix Case Study
The Municipality of Ede, a Dutch local government of about 108,000 residents with roughly 900 staff across multiple sites, launched a pilot to introduce flexible, modern ways of working that required cultural, housing and IT changes. The goal was to roll out a seven‑month pilot for 250 employees and 100 applications using as much existing infrastructure as possible, support BYOD and create a flexible ICT workspace tied to a town hall renovation — desktop virtualization was chosen to meet those needs.
Qwise built a Citrix XenDesktop environment on HP blades and an IBM SAN using XenServer, Microsoft App‑V and RES Workspace Manager, converting many fat clients to thin clients and delivering personalized Windows 7 virtual desktops. The rollout reduced seat requirements (shared workstations at 72% of staff), cut energy use, enabled secure remote and BYOD access, improved collaboration and scalability (planned growth to 700 virtual desktops), and helped position Ede as a modern, flexible employer.
